2. The Calle del Arco

One of the most visited places in all of Antigua Guatemala is definitely the Calle del Arco. This street is full of local shops, restaurants and typical sales with colorful walls that exude charm.

While strolling down this street remember to take out your camera as you are sure to find many things to photograph.

The best part of this walk is when you reach the end of the street, where you will find the beautiful arch of Santa Catalina, famous for its bright yellow color and the large clock in the center.

3. El Carmen Handicrafts Market Street

If you want to discover the local handicrafts and appreciate how they are created, a good option is to visit the El Carmen Handicrafts Market Street.

This place is divided into two parts: an indoor and an outdoor section in the middle of the streets of Antigua Guatemala.

Both parts have a huge variety of typical handmade crafts that combine the view perfectly with the colorful walls and ruins of the city.

Each handicraft represents local traditions, ranging from jewelry and clothing to home decor and traditional sweets.

We continue our tour with a square that has different tourist sites that you should know. In this square is the La Union tank, one of the best known public washing places in Antigua Guatemala, inaugurated in 1853.

After the earthquake of 1976, the washhouses had to be rebuilt again, but its design was maintained.

Apart from being a tourist site for its architecture, the square is also known for being one of the places where the legend of “La Llorona” takes place.

The washes are the meeting point for many Guatemalans, whom you can see chatting as you walk through the square along its palm trees and benches.
