Types of heritages in Guatemala
According to UNESCO, in Guatemala and internationally, a classification has been created to distribute the nation’s heritages. The categories have certain specifications in order to be considered as such
Natural Heritage
This refers to all the archaeological and natural wealth on Guatemalan soil. It is defined as any “natural” monument, geological formations, places and natural landscapes that have an aesthetic, scientific or environmental value. In Guatemala, the following are considered natural heritages:
- Mayan Biosphere Reserve
- Lake Atitlán
- Semuc Champey Natural Monument
- Pacaya Volcano
- Río Dulce National Park

Cultural Heritage
It is conformed by the goods that have been a cultural legacy throughout history for a nation. They can be of historical, scientific, symbolic or aesthetic importance. In this category there are two subsections: tangible and intangible.
Tangible heritage
Known as cultural expression through the material. In fact, it can include archaeological, historical, artistic, ethnographic, technological, religious objects and everything that has an artisanal or folkloric origin.

This is a subcategory within tangible heritage that includes places, sites, buildings, works, centers, architectural ensembles, typical zones or monuments. These must have a certain historical, archeological, artistic or scientific value registered as:
